PPP's Kayveas to step dow
M Kayveas indicated today that he would step down as People's Progressive Party (PPP) president and hand over the party to a younger leader when his current term expires in 2014.
As such, he asked PPP members to prepare a candidate of calibre to take over as the party president through a smooth transition process without creating any disunity. Kayveas was returned unopposed as president at the party's annual general assembly in May last year for a fourth term. He said he would give the opportunity to more younger leaders in the party to express themselves at the party's annual general assembly expected to be held on June 19. "Let us not only allow divisional heads to express themselves. Other members should also be given the chance to be heard so that we will know what are the changes they want," he said. Also present at the function was PPP senior vice-president Senator Maglin Dennis D'Cruz, who is Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister. - Bernama
"I will step down (as president) in three to five years' time and let a new leader helm the party," Kayveas, 56, told reporters after opening the Selangor PPP general meeting in Subang Jaya near.
